Resumo: Pretendemos no presente artigo esclarecer o sentido da crítica efetuada por Michel Foucault na obra de 1961, Historie de la folie, em relação à psicologia. Para tal, partiremos de uma análise do projeto de 1954, Maladie mentale et personnalité, para compreender o percurso da argumentação que teria conduzido o filósofo à crítica que inaugura a fase arqueológica na década de 1960. Acreditamos que, se inicialmente Foucault acreditava ser necessário, em Maladie mentale et personnalité, conciliar as contradições metodológicas da psicologia num projeto unificado; depois, emHistorie de la folie, no lugar de uma conciliação, as contradições passariam a representar a própria condição de existência da psicologia, forma de saber moderna na qual o homem é convidado a refletir sobre si aprofundando-se no jogo de contradição por meio da qual tem-se a verdade interiorizada.

Abstract: In this article we intend to clarify the meaning of the criticism in relation to psychology made by Michel Foucault in the 1961 work, Historie de la folie. Considering this purpose, we will start from an analysis of the 1954 project, Maladie mentale et personnalité, to understand the mainlines of the argument that would have conduct the philosopher to the criticism that marked the archeological phase in the 1960s. We believe that under this criticism there is a strong contrast: if Foucault in Maladie mentale et personnalité believed that was necessary to reconcile the methodological contradictions of psychology in a unified project; later, in Historie de la folie, he sustained that contradictions would come to represent the very condition of the existence of psychology. In this sense, psychology is a modern form of knowledge in which man is invited to reflect on himself by deepening the game of contradiction through of which anthropological truth is internalized.
