Resumo: O presente artigo tem por objetivo geral discutir certas considerações de Hannah
Arendt com relação ao tema da democracia, tendo por background alguns pontos da assim
chamada “crise” que perpassa essa forma de configuração política, mais especificamente, a
desconfiança frente a sua efetividade em garantir o pleno direito de igualdade e a sua
aplicabilidade concreta em grandes territórios. Com efeito, no primeiro momento do artigo,
busca-se desenvolver o argumento de que Arendt se afasta da ideia de que a democracia
corresponde a uma forma de governo destinada apenas ao controle dos indivíduos e à efetivação
do mecanismo representativo enquanto seu critério autossuficiente de legitimidade. Num
segundo momento, pretende-se caracterizar e aprofundar a compreensão de Hannah Arendt
acerca da democracia e vincular o escopo de sua argumentação aos dilemas democráticos
levantados. Por fim, discute-se, portanto, como o destaque que Arendt confere às noções de
ação compartilhada, opinião e liberdade, enquanto experiências fundamentais para a realização
de um éthos democrático, constituem uma importante chave para a atualização do sentido da
política em nossos tempos.

Abstract: The general objective of this article is to discuss some of Hannah Arendt’s
considerations to the theme of democracy, having as background some points of the so-called
“crisis” that permeates this form of political configuration, more specifically, the mistrust in
face of its effectiveness in guaranteeing the full right to equality and its pratical applicability in
large territories. Indeed, in the first moment of the paper, I try to develop the argument that
Arendt scape from the idea that democracy corresponds to a form of government destined to
control individuals and to implement the representative mechanism as self-sufficient criterion
of legitimacy. In a second moment, it is intended to characterize and deepen Hannah Arendt’s
understanding of democracy and to link the scope of her argument to the democratic dilemmas
raised. In the end, it is discussed the emphasis that Arendt gives to the notion of shared action,
opinion and freedom while an fundamental experiences for the realization of a democratic éthos
and as important key for the updating the sense of politics in our times.
