Resumo: Este texto é parte constitutiva da tese intitulada: É Preta, é Preto em todo canto da cidade: história e imprensa da São Luiz do Maranhão da primeira metade do séc. XIX, produzida entre os anos de 2013 e 2017. Esta parte em especial trata da cidade e as limitações de trânsito, para aqueles que não eram livres e/ou, os africanos e seus descendentes que experienciavam a escravidão. As reflexões aqui apresentadas, nos permitirá compreender aquilo que nem sempre é visto ou dito sobre memórias e marcas de África nas cidades brasileiras. Aos olhos atentos dessa historiadora que vos escreve, a cidade de São Luís do Maranhão é uma das muitas cidades negras brasileira pois, suas memórias e evidencias históricas é nos apresentada cotidianamente a partir da cultura daquele lugar.

Abstract: This text is a constituent part of the thesis entitled: It’s Black, it’s Black everywhere in the city: history and press of São Luís do Maranhão in the first half of the 19th century, produced between 2013 and 2017. This part in particular deals with the city and the limitations of transit for those who were not free and/or Africans and their descendants who experienced slavery. The reflections presented here will allow us to understand what is not always seen or said about memories and marks of Africa in Brazilian cities. In the attentive eyes of this historian who writes to you, the city of São Luís do Maranhão is one of the many black Brazilian cities because its memories and historical evidence are presented to us daily from the culture of that place.
