Résumé: L’article aborde un problème d’interprétation lié à la théorie de la justice d’Eric Weil. Nous savons que la Philosophie politique de Weil développe une logique à trois termes, impliquant les notions de communauté historique, de société et d’État. La première se définit par ses traditions morales, religieuses, politiques, artistiques et autres. La société est l’organisation de cette communauté dans sa lutte avec la nature, c’est-à-dire l’organisation de la satisfaction des besoins, le système de production et d’échange. L’État, quant à lui, est la forme institutionnelle qui permet à une communauté historique d’agir et de délibérer sur les problèmes auxquels elle est confrontée et de prendre les décisions nécessaires. Selon Weil, le problème central des États modernes est de concilier justice et efficacité. La société moderne est fondée sur la rationalisation du travail social, l’idéal du progrès matériel et technique, l’augmentation constante de la productivité et l’accès du plus grand nombre à des biens de plus en plus sophistiqués. Il semble donc que l’opposition entre justice et efficacité englobe l’opposition entre l’historique et le rationnel, entre la communauté et la société. Le problème est donc de concilier un idéal de justice avec la recherche de l’efficacité dans les domaines de l’économie, de la technologie et des sciences de l’organisation, qui est le propre des sociétés modernes.

Resumo: O artigo aborda um problema de interpretação relacionado à teoria da justiça em Eric Weil. Sabemos que a Filosofia Política de Weil desenvolve uma lógica de três termos, envolvendo as noções de comunidade histórica, sociedade e Estado. A primeira é definida por suas tradições morais, religiosas, políticas, artísticas e outras. A sociedade é a organização dessa comunidade em sua luta com a natureza, quer dizer, a organização da satisfação das necessidades, o sistema de produção e troca. Já o Estado é a forma institucional que permite a uma comunidade histórica agir e deliberar sobre os problemas que enfrenta e tomar as decisões necessárias. Segundo Weil, o problema central dos Estados modernos é conciliar justiça e eficiência. A sociedade moderna é fundada na racionalização do trabalho social, no ideal de progresso material e técnico, no aumento constante da produtividade e no acesso do maior número possível de pessoas a bens cada vez mais sofisticados. Portanto, parece que a oposição entre justiça e eficiência abrange a oposição entre o histórico e o racional, entre comunidade e sociedade. O problema é, portanto, conciliar um ideal de justiça com a busca pela eficiência nos domínios da economia, da tecnologia e da ciência organizacional, que é a marca registrada das sociedades modernas.

Abstract: The article addresses a problem of interpretation related to Eric Weil’s theory of justice. We know that Weil’s Political philosophy develops a three-term logic, involving the notions of historical community, society and state. The former is defined by its moral, religious, political, artistic and other traditions. Society is the organization of this community in its struggle with nature, that is, the organization of the satisfaction of needs, the system of production and exchange. The state is the institutional form that allows a historical community to act and deliberate on the problems it faces and make the necessary decisions. According to Weil, the central problem of modern states is reconciling justice and efficiency. Modern society is founded on the rationalization of social work, the ideal of material and technical progress, the constant increase in productivity and the access of as many people as possible to increasingly sophisticated goods. Therefore, it seems that the opposition between justice and efficiency encompasses the opposition between the historical and the rational, between community and society. The problem is therefore to reconcile an ideal of justice with the quest for efficiency in the fields of economics, technology and organizational science, which is the hallmark of modern societies.
