Resumo: A ‘teoria política’ proposta por Maquiavel, em suas obras, sobretudo em O
príncipe, tem como base a realidade onde a imprevisibilidade da fortuna e a inconstância dos
homens, geralmente concorrem para a destruição do bem coletivo. Por isso, requer do novo
príncipe ou do governo republicano a habilidade de um artífice que entende que o governo
‘virtuoso’, dotado de virtù, não é, de modo algum, aquele que possui todas as virtudes, mas
sim aquele capaz de compreender que toda ação política é construída na contingência de uma
dada realidade. Portanto, o bom governo não é necessariamente o ‘governo bom’ do ponto de
vista moral, mas sim o hábil político consciente de que a manutenção do Estado e
dos ordini dependem de suas próprias decisões.

Abstract:The ‘political theory’ proposed by Machiavelli, in his works, especially in the The
prince, is based on the reality where the unpredictability of fortune and the fickleness of men,
generally destroy the collective good. So it requires, the new prince or the republican
government, the ability of a craftsman who understands that the government ‘ virtuoso ‘,
endowed with virtù, is by no means the one who has all the virtues, but rather one can
understand that every action policy is built on a contingency given reality. Therefore, the
good government is not necessarily the ‘virtuous government’ of the moral point of view, but
rather the skilful politician aware that maintaining the State depend on their own decisions.
