The philosopher is often recognized as the greatest skeptic and is classified in many basic philosophy books as a genuinepyrrhonian. This paper aims to demonstrate how this myth become untenable if we look at some facts in history of philosophy. The intention here is to characterize this supposed Cartesian skepticism and show how it presents itself in a methodologically strategic way in defense of his theistic and foundationalist approaches, in the best sense of those terms.
